Match.com and The Importance of Images

Posted on | September 17, 2008 |

I was doing some research on online dating sites, and went to Match.com to see what was new on their site.  The home page image stopped me and my mouse dead in our tracks.

Is it just me?  Am I just getting old?  Or does that look like a 13-year-old girl?    She has this innocent face, a flower in her hair, and a caption that reads “I make a mean casserole.”

I’m not buying it.  The picture is way too professional and airbrushed.   I don’t believe this waif-looking girl “makes a mean casserole.”  I’m not even sure she’s old enough to know how to cook.

Maybe I’m being too hard on Match.com.  But I have to tell you, I’ve been doing a lot of research on how women and men react differently to images.   The picture of this young girl with Match.com’s tagline “It’s ok to look” just gave me the heebegeebees.

Am I over-reacting?
